Should an MP be on the Civic List for invitations?

In my 4 years as a Civic Officer I have always put the local MP down to receive invitations to Civic events. This year we have a new MP and I'm not sure if he should be invited to the Civic Dinner or not? I thought yes but a Councillor has questioned this and thinks they are not a Civic as such and therefore should only be invited if they are a friend of the Mayor. What are your thoughts on this? do you always invite the MP to Civic Dinners?

MPs are included in the official civic line up greeting The Queen so I believe that an MP is, therefore a civic guest. If he or she was only included as a friend of the Mayor this might well be deemed to be showing political support
